Lynton Talbot is an independent curator based in London, working with artists to produce text, exhibitions and live events.
Together with Hana Noorali, he started non-profit galleries in both London and Berlin since 2007 and is currently founding Director of parrhesiades, a platform for artists working with language either written, spoken, or otherwise performed.
He has curated exhibitions in commercial galleries, public institutions and project spaces across London and internationally, including The South London Gallery, CCA Goldsmiths, Flat Time House and Camden Arts Centre.
Recent exhibitions include The Noon Sirens at Amant Foundation, New York (2022), The Season of Cartesian Weeping, Roberts Institute, London (2019), The Boys The Girls And The Political, Lisson Gallery, London (2015). He is currently Artistic Co-Director and Curator of the forthcoming Balkan Triennial 2025.
Lynton Talbot is also a founding member of OFFSHORE, an itinerant performance company initiated by artist Cally Spooner in 2017. OFFSHORE has gathered at NTU CCA, Singapore; M-Museum, Leuven, Belgium; Bilbao BAD Festival, La Fundición, Spain; The Centre for National Dance, Paris; The Swiss Institute, New York; Serpentine Gallery and Whitechapel Gallery (both London).
In 2020, Talbot co-edited Intertitles; An Anthology at the Intersection of Writing and Visual Art, published by Prototype Press. This 400 page anthology of newly commissioned works by 30 artists, poets and writers is exemplary of Talbots wider research interest in contemporary artists working with language as either process or material. This is partly informed by Talbot’s own Romani heritage and interest in para-languaging as a form of social and political resistance. This provides the context and critical impulse for his Doctoral research into speculative infrastructures for our cultural landscape.
Talbot has published regularly in Art Monthly, Art Review and with other publishers such as Phaidon and frequently contributes to exhibition catalogues and journals.
Prior to teaching, Talbot worked at The Barbican as part of the international touring exhibitions department. Between 2017 and 2020, he wrote and delivered Museum Curating Now at Tate Modern as part of their ongoing public programming, in collaboration with Kings College London. He has also taught cultural studies, fine art and curating at Master’s and PhD level at Goldsmiths University and The Royal College of Art, and has been a visiting lecturer at universities such as Kunsthochschule, Kassel; Sandberg Institut, Amsterdam; WHW Akademie, Zagreb and others.
Talbot is part of a theory steering committee at the Royal Academy of Arts, is a member of the UAL collections committee and is current Chair of Trustees at The Chelsea Arts Club Trust.
