Biography

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Chanon Treenet. I work as an animator and a painter. I am from Thailand. I have been practicing drawing and painting skills since a young age. Before studying animation in London, I received Bachelor of Architecture from Chulalongkorn University.

Tell us about your work

My work is a combination of hand-drawn drawings and paintings and 2D computer animation techniques.  It is based on my artistic styles and Thai traditional art as well as the knowledge from my previous study in Architecture.

How did you hear about Central Saint Martins?

I met an English instructor from UK who recommended me University of the Arts London. So I did some research and found out about Central Saint Martins.

How would you describe your course?

It is a very multicultural course with students coming from different fields, practicing to become animators within a small community atmosphere.

What sort of a person do you think you need to be to do well on your course?

Be yourself and learn to express it through your work. Sometimes, you need to be able to endure longer working hours than others can.

Why did you choose this particular course?

There are not many animation courses in London. And I think this is one of the best.

Did you get involved with industry or exhibitions on your course?

We had a chance to collaborate with some organisations, such as Royal Shakespeare Company and London Transport Museum, in order to create animations and exhibited them. My works were also selected in competitions such as Adobe Design Achievement Awards.

How would you describe Central Saint Martins?

Designer and artist can come from anywhere and Central Saint Martins gives us that opportunity.

What have your highlights been?

My graduated work received several awards including the highest award from Taiwan where I met many professionals from the industry and had a great time there.

Who inspired or motivated you?

Filmmaker: Wong Kar-Wai, Yasujiro Ozu

Designer: Mies Van Der Rohe

Animator: Yuriy Norshteyn, Isao Takahata

How did you find supporting yourself in London?

Living in London is actually a lot more convenient than where I come from. I took a freelance job. I also made lots of friends at CSM who had been very supportive.

How does the reality of studying here compare to your expectations?

The overall atmosphere is very relaxing. The professors and lecturers are very nice and kind. I thought it would be the opposite.

What are you doing now?

I am currently on a project which is a collaboration with UK filmmaker. I am also preparing to make my new short animated film.
