Alaistair is an Associate Lecturer in Architecture & Spatial Design. He has been teaching at UAL since 2003 and is a guest critic and adviser to a number of courses at other universities.
He is particularly interested in dynamically linking design education with practice and has initiated collaborations with leading edge companies such as Ideo, 6A Architects and Pippa Nissen Studio (Theatre & Architecture) on educational projects developed and delivered for UAL. Research interests include the inhabitation and appropriation of built form; phenomenological readings of space and place; urban fabric as medium; the interpretation of mediated space; humanising the city.
Alaistair is a founder member of the London College of Communication's Museum Futures Group, co-wrote the UAL Widening Participation publication, Drawing on Windows: Engaging Young People with the Built Environment, and writes and delivers research papers on a range of topics. Alaistair has worked on urban and spatial design projects with private and publicly-funded clients including the General London Assembly’s Architecture and Urbanism Unit, Adams and Sutherland Architects and General Public Agency. Alaistair has a degree in Drama from John Moores University, Liverpool, in Spatial Design from CSM, an MA in Architecture from the RCA and a PGCE.
