Biography

I am an educator and artist. I have experience of working in both further and higher education institutions since 1999, I have taught specialist 3D Design/Crafts subjects as well as Fine Art, Drawing and Sculpture at various levels. I have worked across a range of subject disciplines helping to embed consistent levels of practice-based research. In the last four years at Central Saint Martins I have developed and successfully run a cross-disciplinary project with students from both the Central Saint Martins Foundation course and Paris College of Art.

I am an experienced Senior External Moderator and Qualification Advisor, initially working for ABC Awards (between 2004 - 2015) and then for the UAL Awarding Body since 2009.

As an artist the work I produce is inspired by a sense of place (or environment), much of the imagery and materials are collected and/or found – a process of selection, careful consideration for composition and assembly are then employed. Most recently I have completed a residency at the Kurt Schwitters Merzbarn in the Lake District, creating a new body of work in response to the environment and legacy of the place.

I hold a BA (Hons) Design and Applied Arts: Ceramics (Edinburgh College of Art); MA Contemporary Crafts (University for Creative Arts, Farnham); Certificate in Education in Post-Compulsory Education (De Montfort University)
