Biography

Clare Skeats is an Associate Lecturer in Graphic Design and has been teaching on the Central Saint Martins Foundation course since 2009. After graduating with a BA in Graphic Design, she has worked as an in-house designer for Penguin Books, Random House and Margaret Howell. She has been a freelance designer since 2004 and specialises in designing both covers and internal designs for a range of publishing houses. In 2012, she collaborated with David Pearson on the re-brand of the independent publisher Pushkin Press and continues to produce covers for them.

Clare has worked with many leading contemporary illustrators including Ping Zhu, Jean Jullien, Kate Gibb and Julie Verhoeven and is a passionate supporter of illustration’s role within visual culture. Her recent speaking engagements on the subject of book design include 'Stories from the Fold' and Eye magazine’s 'In’s and Outs of Book Design', both held at St Bride Library in London. She is currently working on the autobiography of Dame Vivienne Westwood.
