I am interested in how the formation of communities - both practice-based and social – can offer profound experiences and open up new directions for individuals working in an art and design context.
In my role as Curriculum Leader of Communication Design, I am also involved in initiating and building partnerships with cultural institutions and industry, providing opportunities for our students to engage with live projects and events. I have worked closely with the Victoria and Albert Museum on a number of projects, events and displays as well as the House of Illustration and the British Library Sound Archive.
I formed onehundredandtwenty with Tim Meara in 2015 as a space to explore and experiment with notions of collectivity and connectivity in art and design education. A recent project we designed, Commune in the Futuro House, saw 4 Foundation students spending 4 days living and working in a Futuro House on the roof of Central Saint Martins. The participants conceived of a set of rules, values and aims by which to live together and spent their time in the House generating, sharing and distributing ideas about the future in imaginative and surprising ways.
We have spoken about our research at the Graphic Design Educators Network annual conference in 2016 and 2017 and participated in the 8th ELIA Academy in July 2017.
We have been commissioned by Octopus Publishing to write a book on the Central Saint Martins Foundation course, due for publication in September 2019.
I hold an MA Photography (RCA), a BA (Hons) Print & Photomedia (Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design) and a PGCert (CLTAD)
