Biography
I am a Research Fellow at LSE Cities and a design practitioner. Trained as an architect my research, design practice and teaching focus on sanitation and housing in the context of rapid urbanisation, inequitable infrastructure developments, and urban micro-culture primarily in the UK and India.
My work has been exhibited internationally including the 2016 Venice Architectural Biennial, the Southbank Centre and Somerset House. In 2018 I was awarded a Royal Commission for 1851 grant to research and develop design solutions cross-cutting the sanitation chain from the toilet to community infrastructure projects. I am currently working on numerous low-cost housing and sanitation strategies in Delhi and public space interventions with young adults in Brent, London; in addition, I am researching urban governance in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and planning policy in London. I have won numerous awards for my work including Emerging Woman Architect of the Year (2014) where the judging panel described, ‘Her work has great resonance internationally... She came across as someone who is very driven, very smart and very capable of getting things done in difficult circumstances’.
Other awards include NLA Award (2016), Civic Trust Regional Award (2016) and short-listed for a Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award (2014). My projects have been widely publicised, including ICON’s ‘Future 50’ “a snapshot of 50 young architects who are pushing the boundaries of their disciplines and trying to change the world” and Metropolis ‘New Talent’, amongst others. I have authored chapters in ‘Home Economics’ (2016) and ‘Infrastructure Space’ (2017) and co-authored a chapter in ‘The SAGE Handbook of the 21st Century City’ (2017). I currently teach on the Cities Masters Programme at LSE and runs a design studio on the M ARCH: Architecture course at Central Saint Martins.
