Camelia graduated from BA (Hons) Cordwainers Footwear: Product Design & Development in 2016 and took her project to Paris Fashion Week. Here she discusses the experience, from applying for LCF to graduating.

Could you introduce yourself and what you do?

My name is Camelia Croitoru and I graduated from London College of Fashion – BA Cordwainer Footwear Design in 2016, for which I was awarded with the Cup of Excellence in Footwear by the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers.

How did you find the course?

It was a lot to take in at the beginning. However, I fell in love with the environment and the course as soon as the hands-on part started. All the staff, from academics to technicians, are there to help you and offer their support.

Why did you choose to study at LCF?

I was not sure what path I wanted to take. I had started in interior design and my thoughts were heading towards architecture. But while studying the Art & Design Foundation I decided I want to become a shoe designer/maker. I had done research before applying and decided that London College of Fashion would benefit me the most. I guess the curriculum and the alumni attracted me to LCF, and later on the teaching staff.

What is the best thing about LCF?

I would dare to say everything from its location to the academic support.

Where do you take your inspiration from?

I would subscribe ii to a rebellious manifesto. I think my style is non-conformist with a twist of innovation. I am not trying to fit into the fashion world. I get inspiration from everything around me but mostly from uneven, not-so beautiful shapes or objects.

This year, you were selected to show at Paris Fashion Week. How did you find this experience?

Yes, I continued my BA project after graduating and during this time I have had a few fashion/magazines editorials. Presenting at PFW was quite an experience. It was frightening and exciting at the same time. My excitement grew when a few days after the show I saw one of my designs on Vogue Online.

What are the next steps for you now?

After the Paris show, I was invited to New York to show my designs at New York Fashion Tech Week in September. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend. But I am planning on staying in London and working on new opportunities and concepts.
